News Short: Human remains found near Colorado City have been identified

ST. GEORGE – The mystery surrounding the human remains found by children playing near Colorado City in November of last year has been solved. The human remains are believed to be that of a prehistoric Native American.

Detectives have been informed by the Flagstaff anthropologist that they believe the human remains are that of a prehistoric Native American male subject, dating to approximately 1,800 years ago, Patricia Carter, spokesperson for the Mohave County Sheriff’s Department, said.

The remains were discovered on Nov. 11, 2013, by children hiking and gathering firewood with their mother in a desert area that Mohave County Sheriff’s Office described as between Colorado City and a stretch of Bureau of Land Management land about nine-tenths of a mile from U.S. Highway 389.

The bones were recovered by the Mohave Sheriff’s Office and taken to the Mohave County Medical Examiner’s office for autopsy and were later identified as human.

In December, the Medical Examiner’s office sent the bones to an anthropologist in Flagstaff, Ariz for further analysis.

This concludes the Mohave County Sheriff Department’s investigation into the matter, Carter said.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by the authorities and may not contain the full scope of findings.

1800 years old is not prehistoric. Wasn’t Christ supposed to have been born 2014 years ago? Misprint.

What they may be referring to is pre-columbian. Meaning before Columbus “found” America.
