Obamacare 4-year anniversary: families hit with higher premiums, fewer choices

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Orrin Hatch, ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee, issued the following statement Friday in advance of Sunday’s 4-year anniversary of the president’s signature domestic policy achievement, Obamacare, being signed into law:

Contrary to the wishful thinking of Washington Democrats, the American people can’t be fooled. Four years later and hard-working families are getting hit with higher premiums and fewer choices. Seniors enrolled in Medicare are now at risk of losing their plans, benefits, and doctors. And, American job creators are being forced to navigate an endless web of bureaucratic red tape that leaves them with less certainty and more confusion. No matter how you spin this, it’s four years later and Americans are reminded of the failures of a misguided health law and of countless broken promises coming out of this White House.

Since the Obama Administration has begun implementing the law, several nonpartisan experts have warned of the adverse economic impact the health care law will have on American individuals, families and job creators:

  • JOB LOSS: The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office found that the President’s health care law would eliminate 2.3 million American jobs in 2021.
  • PREMIUM SPIKES: The Office of the Chief Actuary at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services found that two-thirds of Americans that work at small businesses, roughly 11 million workers, will see their premiums rise under ObamaCare.
  • LOSS OF COVERAGE:  Last month, CBO reported that 7 million employees will actually lose their employer-sponsored coverage under ObamaCare.

Additional Background

A staunch opponent of the President’s health law, Hatch has introduced legislation that would repeal the two central pillars of the Affordable Care Act, the employer and individual mandates, and has bipartisan legislation repealing the medical device tax that partially funds the law.  Hatch has also championed legislation to repeal the tax on job creators and their employees. Most recently, Hatch introduced the Trust But Verify Act, to delay the launch of the exchanges, where people will buy their Washington-mandated insurance, until the Government Accountability Office can certify that the Data Hubs, the online market place to buy insurance are secure.

Well gee, Orrin. You sat on your hands for the last 5 years while the President literally begged the Republicans to come forward with their own ideas for a desperately needed health plan. You’ve been in office for 37 years with out once concerning yourself with the dire situation of the uninsured. You were the ranking member on the finance committee charged with coming up with a workable healthcare plan and you walked out in a juvenile huff because your “honor” was offended. You were a co-sponsor of the individual mandate health plan proposed by the Heritage Foundation in the 90″s, the exact same plan that Mitt Romney used in Massachusetts and is the basis for the ACA

Does your hypocrisy know no bounds? Instead of working to improve the ACA, which will not ever be repealed and you know it, you’re pulling this election year stunt with a plan that came 10 years too late. You sir, are bereft of honor and integrity. Pathetic.

Contrary to the wishful thinking ….. we need more little square boxes with
Orrin Hatch picture in them . Guiding the American financial system. Maybe
we could get the Spectrum to fill every box they have on the front of there web
page …each with a different article about “Orrin” ? (same picture) he’d make
a perfect “big brother” turn on your TV and there he’d be. Were getting close
    I think.

The way he portrays the 2.3 million jobs number is a complete lie. The report said that the equivalent of 2.3 million people would quit their jobs. In other words, there are a lot of people out there that are keeping their jobs because it is the only way to get insurance. Think of the 62-year-old who has enough to retire, but couldn’t quit because no insurance company would sell him an individual policy. Think of the artist or entrepreneur who now has the freedom to leave her job to pursue her dreams.

Obamacare is not perfect, but the way it eliminates job lock is something lovers of freedom should celebrate.

And Orin did nothing about Barry and his documents that have been proven to be a FRAUD by forensic experts. He did nothing along with our Congressmen. Isn’t this Misprison of Felony? A major crime has been committed against the people of America and our representatives and the media did nothing and still do nothing. We have an illegal President in the White House. I understand our “media” have been threatened if they talk about it. Sheriff Arpilo knows all about it. Since Barry is not legit everything he has done including the so called “ObamaCare” is null and void.
