ST. GEORGE – A T-bone accident on Red Hills Parkway at about 11:30 a.m. today resulted in one driver being taken to the hospital and the other driver sustaining wrist injuries. Two ambulances, St. George Fire and Police Departments responded to the scene.
The two-car accident occurred at the intersection of Red Hills Parkway and Skyline Drive when a woman driving a blue Subaru Forrester turned left at the intersection across oncoming traffic causing a grey Nissan Xterra to plow into the Forrester’s passenger side, St. George Police Officer Jamison Hale said on scene of the accident.
No passengers were in the Forrester, but there was a small child in the back seat of the Xterra who was moved from one ambulance to another on a spine stabilizing stretcher.
Although the child was assisted by medical personnel, Hale said that the child didn’t sustain any injuries that he was aware of and she is fine. The girl was buckled up in a car seat in the back seat of the Xterra, Hale said.
The woman driving the Xterra was also on a spine stabilizing stretcher, however she was taken to the hospital by Gold Cross Ambulance. The woman driving the Forrester sustained a wrist injury but was not taken to the hospital.
Both cars had significant damage and were towed from the scene.
Upon interviewing the drivers and witnesses, Hale said both drivers said they had a green light. The driver of the left-turning Forrester said she had a green arrow, and the driver of the Xterra said she had a green light to go straight. There was also a witness driving behind the Xterra who said that the Xterra driver had a green light, Hale said.
Hale said that even if both lights were green, the left-turning driver of the Forrester still needed to yield, because she was turning left.
The driver of the Forrester was given a citation for failure to yield on a left turn.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by the authorities and may not contain the full scope of findings.
