Man dead after falling from Grand Canyon’s South Rim

GRAND CANYON, Ariz. – A Texas man is dead after falling off the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, Saturday, the National Park Service reported.

Around 8 a.m., Saturday, park officials were made aware that a man had fallen from the rim near the El Tovar Lodge, the NPS said in a statement.

Park rangers found the man, identified as John N. Anderson, 53, of Grapevine, Texas, and determined he had fallen 350 feet. Efforts to resuscitate Anderson proved unsuccessful.

An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the NPS in coordination with the Coconino County Medical Examiner. No further information is available at this time.

Anderson was visiting the park with his family when the accident occurred.
