St. George man arrested on nine felonies, stolen guns other property

ST. GEORGE — A St. George man was arrested on Tuesday by St. George Police and charged with nine felonies for theft by receiving stolen guns, golf clubs and other property.

Police arrested Tavis Rone McArthur, 29, of St. George and charged him with nine counts of second-degree felony theft by receiving stolen property.

According to the probable cause statement, officers contacted McArthur at his mother’s residence to inquire about several guns that he had in his possession. After officers spoke to McArthur and his mother, she voluntarily took officers to her son’s bedroom where officers observed two guns sitting on his bed.

McArthur’s mother then retrieved six pistols, one rifle, a set of Callaway golf clubs and golf bag from his bedroom. A second set of Ping I10 golf clubs and bag was found near the front door of the home.

McArthur admitted to police that he knew the property was stolen and he was keeping it for a friend, the statement said.

After McCarthur signed a consent to search, officers found a man’s gold diamond ring, costume jewelry and some rare collectors coins, which he admitted were also stolen, according to the statement.

McCarthur was booked into Washington County’s Purgatory Correctional Facility and his bail was set at time of booking at $285,000. McArthur is scheduled to appear for a roll call hearing in Fifth District Court on Monday at 2:30 p.m.

Persons charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
