Donald Floyd Savage, 76, passed away unexpectedly on March 10, 2014 in St. George, Utah. Don was born on December 12, 1937 in Pampa, TX to Virgie and Ernest Savage. He was married to his beloved wife Marie.
Don spent a good portion of his adult life in Southern California but as he would often mention, was a Texan at heart. He graduated from Snyder High School in Snyder, TX before going off to college in Kansas where he was an All-Conference football player. After college Don served in the United States Army for twenty years, becoming an officer and serving in posts around the world in Army Intelligence. He also spent two tours in Viet Nam and his passion and loyalty for his country was on display every day of his life. He finished his working career as a Director of Industrial Security for GRC and Delco Corp/GM in Santa Barbara, CA.
Don was very passionate about everything he did and if he had a dream, he would finish it. One example was his taking an early retirement and traveling the country continuously with his wife Marie for two years at the young age of 53. It was his dream and he did it. Don loved travel, reading, food and sports, but his real love was people. He could light up a room and make a stranger feel like the most important person in the world. His story telling, optimism and contagious laughter will stay in our hearts forever. Mostly he will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. His grandkids most often said he made them laugh every time, the ultimate compliment for a man they took such pride in.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father, his two sisters Maxine and Janet, and daughter Georgina Pisors. He is survived by his wife Marie, his children and grandchildren – Marcy and Chris Gansel (Emily, Megan, Ethan and Dylan) Hill City, Kansas, Greg and Tiffany Savage (Benjamin and Nicholas) Lenexa, KS, Ruth Bowman (Sophie) Taos, NM, Lyn and Rob Hiner (Sarah and Ellie) San Clemente, CA and (Briana Ferrell) Las Vegas, NV.
