Man arrested for drug distribution, other charges

ST. GEORGE – A St. George man was arrested by police Saturday in connection with drug distribution and related charges.

Police responded to a drug-related incident in the area of 1500 North 2100 West Saturday evening. Police investigated the scene and after interviews with people who knew individuals involved, 28-year-old Felipe Garcia was pinpointed by police as someone they wished to speak with.

Garcia was contacted by police and detained while police executed a search warrant for the home in which he currently lived.

Police found suspected drug paraphernalia, heroin and marijuana in the home. According to the probable cause statement filed in connection with the arrest, the heroin, noted more specifically as possible “black tar heroin,” was wrapped in tiny BB-sized pieces of aluminum foil. Among the paraphernalia were lighters, used needles, aluminum foil, toot straws, a digital scale, a bottle filled with suspected heroin BBs, a notebook filled with “notations, money transactions and a list of money owed,” and other items.

Garcia was arrested and charged with first-degree drug distribution and two class-A misdemeanors for drug possession and paraphernalia, St. George Police Sgt. Sam Despain said. The charges were enhanced due to the having taken place in a drug-free zone. In this case, it was within 1,000 feet of Snow Canyon High School, he said.

As of Monday’s bookings information, Garcia’s bail stands at $27,772.

Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
