Miss football yet? Dixie Rebels begin new season

Are you ready for some football?

ST. GEORGE – For those football fanatics in Southern Utah that suffer from the long, dreary stretch from Super Bowl Sunday until the beginning of the NFL preseason, the fix is in. The Dixie Rebels semi-pro football team is in full swing for the upcoming season. The Rebels held their tryouts on Jan. 11 and have been practicing since that time.

rebelfootballThe Rebels are part of the Rocky Mountain Football AAA League. Last year the Rebels lost to repeat-champion Utah Stealth from Lehi. Prior to the Stealth’s two-year reign as RMFL champions, the Rebels had their own two-year reign. The RMFL AAA is broken down into the following four divisions:

Idaho Division
Arco Anarchy
Boise Generals
Idaho Matadors
Magic Valley Bulldawgs

Montana Division
Billings Bullets
Great Falls Gladiators
Laurel Loco Express
Montana Blaze

Utah North Division
Brigham Sting
Logan Stampede
Utah Stealth
Utah Shock

Utah South Division
Dixie Rebels
Rocky Mountain Mudducks
Utah Cobras
Wasatch Revolution

The Rebels will play division rival Wasatch twice. They also have both last year’s season champion (Utah Shock) and the Utah Stealth on their season schedule. The Rebels will make two long road trips, the first in mid-April to Boise, the last in mid-May to Great Falls, Mont. The Rebels play all their home games at Dixie High School.
