ST. GEORGE — A new nonprofit organization, Free2Feed, or F2F, is hosting a fundraising dinner on Monday at Red Robin. Supporters dine at Red Robin from 4-9 p.m. and mention F2F and 10 percent of their sales will be donated to F2F.
The organization started with Aditi Aromi who, after moving to St. George, couldn’t find a mothers support group in town. It started with six members and has grown to over 60. Aromi gave birth to her second child the afternoon after the first meeting started. F2F meets every Wednesday from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at Premier Dance Center located at 1495 S. Black Ridge Drive in St. George.
“I think the biggest reason why many moms don’t breastfeed is that they are not familiar with it and it isn’t something they grew up with,” Aromi said. “That’s why I gave it the name, because we want to normalize breastfeeding in the community and make it so all women can feel free to feed. A lot of moms are uncomfortable and they don’t remember. Also, a lot of moms do attempt to breastfeed, but the truth of the matter is it is difficult. It is painful. It is hard and maybe if you have a husband or a mom or a mother-in-law who is not supportive, it is easier to just quit.”
The organization meets each week to answer breastfeeding and mothering questions in a casual, positive environment. All women are welcome. Twice a month guest speakers come in to teach the women regarding topics which have included natural mothering lifestyles, baby carriers, cloth diapering, baby sign language, attachment parenting, essential oils, natural childbirth, nutrition and prenatal and pediatric chiropractic care.
Pregnant moms come to our to learn ropes before babies come. F2F members assist mothers at the hospital just hours after birth in the latching process and offer home cooked meals to moms who have recently given birth so they can focus on settling in and bonding. The organization welcomes all women with a gift and lots of support.
