ST. GEORGE — The first accident happened at the intersection of 100 South River Road at about 7:30 p.m on Tuesday, with the second accident sending emergency crews to the intersection of 700 South River Road at about 8 p.m.

The accident at 100 South River Road involved a red Grand Prix making a left-hand turn on a yellow light from the southbound lane to travel eastbound on 100 South from River Road.

“The Grand Prix made a left turn assuming that northbound traffic had stopped,” St. George Police Officer David Slack said.

A green Prius traveling northbound on River Road crashed nearly head-on into the Grand Prix in the intersection, Slack said.

There were minor bumps and bruises and no one was transported to the hospital. Both cars involved had to be towed from the scene. The driver of the Grand Prix was cited for failure to yield, he said.

The accident at 700 South River Road involved two passenger cars, one going southbound on River Road and the second car turning westbound on 700 South from the northbound lane. The investigation shows that the vehicle in the turn lane didn’t see the vehicle coming, turned and collided with the passenger side of the car that was heading southbound, St. George Police Sgt. David Williams said.

The car making the turn was able to kind of make a correction sideswiping the southbound car, Williams said. “So it wasn’t a full T-bone.”

The driver of the southbound car was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George by Gold Cross Ambulance Service as a precaution. The passenger in the southbound car, who was the driver’s wife, was not injured. The driver and one passenger in the other car were not injured, Williams said.

Both cars had minor damage and were able to be driven away from the scene. The driver of the turning car was cited for failure to yield, Williams said.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by the authorities and may not contain the full scope of findings.
