ST. GEORGE – Who needs a chiropractor? Some may think that seeing a chiropractor is only for people who have been involved in a major automobile accident. However, even if a person has been involved in a slow-speed accident they can receive significant damage to the spine, lower back or neck.

Everyone should visit a chiropractor at least once to be evaluated, Total Health Chirpopractic’s Dr. Justin K. Poppe said. The slightest pain somewhere in the body could indicate that something is out of alignment. A minor misalignment now could develop into major problems in the future.

“Pain is a symptom in the body that there is something going wrong in the body,” Poppe said. “Healing is more important than the pain. The pain can eventually go away.”

Just because the pain is gone doesn’t necessarily mean the body has been healed.  The symptoms can recur, sometimes years later, which may indicate that the cause of the pain is still there.

At Total Health Chiropractic Poppe uses a three-pronged approach to help the body heal itself: spinal decompression, the Pro Adjuster and laser therapy.

Using the three approaches together allows the patient to get better more quickly, Poppe said. “It is the most cutting-edge technology in town.”

The Pro Adjuster was developed by NASA to check the rivets on the space shuttle.  An engineer took that technology and made it work for the human body.  See the demonstration:

“By using the Pro Adjuster we can see how each vertebra is moving, or not moving,” Poppe said, “and that allows us to get to the problem faster.”

Poppe has seen many patients who suffer from chronic pain.  After trying pain pills, injections and consulting with a surgeon, many of Poppe’s patients finally turned to him and have experienced positive results and relief from their chronic pain.

Poppe works together with his patients’ primary care physicians, physical therapists and other medical practitioners to ensure that they receive the ultimate care required.

Total Health Chiropractic specializes in treating car accident victims. “We want to get that patient in and out as soon as possible to get them back to work, get them back to household activities, to being a mother or father,” Poppe said, “whatever it might be.”

Once a patient has seen a chiropractor and has had their body realigned he or she can recognize when the spine is out of alignment. Then it’s a matter of making an appointment as needed, or scheduling a monthly maintenance appointment.

The goal is not to be a continuous lifetime patient, but to help the patient to recognize when the body needs to be aligned.

“What we do at Total Health Chiropractic is work with the spine and surrounding tissue: the muscles, the tendons, the ligaments, to get the body to function better,” Poppe said. He refers to this as the Ultimate Healing System.

It’s not just the back that can benefit from a chiropractic adjustment.  Dr. Poppe treats patients with tendonitis of the elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, foot pain and other ailments.

A chiropractic adjustment could be required, Poppe said, for something as minor as tripping on the stairs or as major as wiping out on a snowboard.

Someone suffering from headaches can benefit greatly from a chiropractic adjustment.

“Several clinical trials indicate that spinal manipulation therapy may help treat migraine headaches,” a website maintained by University of Maryland Medical Center states. “In one study of people with migraines, 22 percent of those who received chiropractic manipulation reported more than a 90 percent reduction of attacks. Also, 49 percent reported a significant reduction of the intensity of each migraine.”

Chiropractic, the medicine of choice for the ill-informed science-skeptic; which sadly describes a plurality of our Southern Utah Jello munching population.
