Margaret Lucille Boren

Boren, Lucille Obit(October 16, 1926 – February 11, 2014)

Margaret “Lucille” Mullen Boren, age 87, left her earthly life behind on February 11, 2014 in St. George Utah. Lucille was born October 16, 1926 in St. Louis, Missouri to Charles Francis Mullen and Jennie Maude Summers Mullen. She married Johnnie Aaron Boren on April 14, 1951 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were later sealed in the LDS Los Angeles Temple.

As a child, she lived in Missouri and in Oakland, California. In her adult years she lived in Southern California, Nevada, and Utah. At the age of 61 she became the oldest graduate of her graduating class at Brigham Young University Provo where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree and her Elementary Education Certificate.

She went on to teach for three years in Nevada and then served a Family History Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Salt Lake City, Utah. Lucille loved the gospel and served in many auxiliaries in the church.

After her mission, she moved to Murray, Utah where she substitute taught. She eventually moved to Saint George where she continued to substitute until she was 81. Lucille had a great love of reading and would read just about anything she could get her hands on. She wanted everyone to have the ability to read, so she tutored many children and adults to help them learn.

She was also the mom away from home for many, many missionaries. She would always feed them dinner and on their P-days they would come over to her house and play basketball or play the piano and sing. Lucille kept in contact with these missionaries for many years.

Lucille loved the beauty of the outdoors and enjoyed going on hikes and collecting rocks. She could hardly wait for spring to come so she could plant her flower garden. Lucille always had one of the most beautiful flower gardens in the neighborhood.

Lucille was greatly loved and will be missed dearly by her family and friends.

She is survived by her four children; Brooke (Dale) Larson, of Ferron, Utah, David (Jan) Boren, of Marsh, Missouri, Kevin (Denece) Boren, of Vancouver, Washington and Star (Shawn) Gotcher, of St. George, Utah; 19 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and her brother Gary (Susan) Mullen of Steelville, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her mother Jennie Summers Hodsen and her father and step-mother, Charles and Agusta Mullen, her husband Johnnie Aaron Boren,  her brother and sister-in-law, Albert (Shirley) Mullen, two grandsons, and a great granddaughter.
