Christensen, Colleen obit(September 1, 1932 – February 16, 2014)

Colleen Hatch Christensen, 81, passed away February 16, 2014.  She was born September 1, 1932, in Bancroft, Idaho to Ansel Wilder Hatch and Agatha Pratt Van Orden.  She was the oldest of 5 children.  She married Lot B. Christensen on August 7, 1952 in the LDS Idaho Falls Tempe.

Born and raised in Chesterfield, Idaho.  Graduated with a Bachelors in Education from Ricks College.  She was an Elementary School Teacher in Mesa, AZ. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints her whole life.  She loved many things, including music.  She played several instruments growing up including the trombone and piano.  She was an accomplished pianist and enjoyed many callings in her church as she shared this talent.  One of her favorite pastimes was hiking, especially the Grand Canyon.  Colleen had an outstanding work ethic.  She was an example of how hard work yields success.  Colleen was devoted to her family and friends.  She always put others first.   Her selfless attitude made her the perfect wife, the best mother, and an amazing grandmother.  When asked about her advice to others, her answer was very telling.  “Focus on what is important in life and always put your family first.”  She built a legacy that will be remembered throughout the eternities.

She is survived by her husband Lot Butler Christensen in St. George, Utah; six children, Pam and Bob White, Kris and Pam Christensen, Scott and Cindy Christensen, Colette and Steve Connolly, Victor and Trinilee Christensen, Shane and Lisa Christensen; twenty-five grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services

  • Funeral services will be Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 1625 N. Lava Flow Drive, St. George, Utah.
  • There will be a viewing Friday, February 21 from 6-8 pm at Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff Street, and also on Saturday prior to services at the church from 9:30-10:30 a.m.
  • Interment will take place at the Santa Clara Cemetery.
