The coach of the hurricane swim team should be fired! How the … do they tell a teenagers to not miss practice get their points inorder to make state. Then the at last minute are put up to race against some one who hasn’t met the same requirements & is a better swimmer who then beats the other student who trained all the time to get to state. Then the winner goes to state & the other is children are devastated.
    Ed. ellipsis.

Maybe you shouldn’t air your grievance in public before you understand the qualifications are needed to make it to state. I am sure the Coach would have been more than willing to explain why your daughter didn’t qualify. Also you don’t know if there were any extenuating circumstances for missed practices from other members.

Some kids go to practice 4 times a week up to 9 if they swim club. Regardless what the attendance policy the coach establishes ONLY the TOP 24 girls in each event are allowed to participate at The State Championship Meet. TOP 24 are based solely on the times that each swimmer has achieved during the season. That is why some teams take 5 and other teams take 30. This year DHHS took 10 girls, PVHS took 6 girls, HHS took 6 girls, many other girls didn’t have qualifying times to go regardless how many times the attended practice, they could not be invited. Park City was able to take 27 girls. Park City had more girls with faster times.

With that being said the bottom line is that your daughter is simply not fast enough.

that was my daughter it was not fair to her at all. she went to all the practice too. It would of been the first time she got to swim at state.

I agree with swim mom. It doesn,t matter how often someone goes to swim practice, only the fastest swimmers in the state go to state. If your child has one of the fastest times in their event placing themselves in the top 24 in the state, then they go to state. Coaches don’t make those rules.
