CEDAR CITY — It was no Elks Hoops Shoot, but it turns out the Canyon View Falcons can hit free throws when they really need to.

canyon-view-smhurricane-smCV made 10 of 11 from the line in the fourth quarter and 20 of 27 in the game to hold off Hurricane 63-49 Wednesday night from the Falcon’s Nest Gymnasium.

Canyon View led by as many 13 in the first half, but the Tigers closed to within four in the third quarter. Hurricane tried to turn it into a free throw contest late, but the Falcons passed with flying colors, hitting 89 percent in the final period and 74 percent in the game. Canyon View also dominated the boards 39-28 and outscored Hurricane 23-13 in the fourth quarter.

Sterling Barnes led Canyon View with 16 points and 7 rebounds while Koy Huxford and Keaton Kringlen each chipped in 11 points. It was the second straight win for CV, which defeated Dixie in St. George Friday night.

The Falcons, 5-11 overall and 2-4 in region play, are just a game behind Dixie and Cedar for third place and a potential playoff spot. Canyon View plays Cedar at home Friday night.

The Tigers, who got 18 points from Cody LeBaron and 11 from Kaden Langston, fell to 5-11 overall and 1-5 in Region 9, in last place. Hurricane hosts Pine View Friday night.
