LaVerkin man arrested on drug distribution charges

HURRICANE — A LaVerkin man was arrested Wednesday at about 3:40 a.m. in the area of 300 North and 3400 West on multiple drug charges.

According to the probable cause statement filed by the police officer in conjunction with the arrest, Travis Lynn Parker, 30, of LaVerkin, was arrested after the officer saw a car sitting in the same location with it’s lights on for over four hours.

The officer investigated by making contact with Parker and found that he had a suspended driver’s license for drug-related charges and no insurance.  While Parker was searching for his insurance card, officers saw a container with a “green leafy substance,” and then placed Parker under arrest, the report said.

While officers were making an inventory of the items inside of the vehicle, they found an aspirin bottle with a clear crystal like substance, a scale, glass pipes, small plastic baggies and syringes. Parker was searched after being placed under arrest and a small glass pipe was located on his person, according to the report.

Parker was charged with two first-degree felonies and one second-degree felony for drug manufacturing and/or distribution, one class-A misdemeanor for possession of drug paraphernalia and class-B misdemeanor charges of no proof of insurance and driving on a suspended/revoked license.

The drug charges were enhanced because Parker was in a drug free zone, within 1000 feet of a church, Hurricane Police Sgt. Brandon Buell said. Parker was charged with drug distribution due to the quantities of drugs and the types of paraphernalia found in his possession, he said.

Utah Fifth District Court records show that Parker pleaded guilty to second-degree felony drug distribution charge on Oct. 15, 2013 and is scheduled to be sentenced on that case on Jan. 29.

Parker was booked into Washington County’s Purgatory Correctional Facility and his bail stands at $53,093.
