A minivan was driving westbound and, for an unknown reason, didn’t stop at a red light crashing in to the back of a passenger car stopped at the red light, causing it to hit the passenger car stopped in front of it, St. George Police Officer David Slack said.

No major injuries were reported but St. George Fire and Gold Cross Ambulance responded as a precaution, Slack said.

The minivan and the middle passenger car both were towed from the scene and the two westbound right lanes were shut down for a while while all traffic was diverted through middle turning lane.

Ed. Note. Street name corrected from Mall Drive to Red Cliffs Drive.

$20.00 says distracted; as in “electronic communications device engaged” distracted…..or simply snoozing at the wheel.

“For an unknown reason?” And no citations issued on the spot? I wonder just who was driving that mini van that they get such “protection?”

I’m sorry, I’m having a hard time visualizing “West-bound” on Mall Dr. Doesn’t Mall Drive run mainly North and South? Is the article talking about the intersection of Mall and Red Cliff Dr near the mall?

Rachel, our reporter said it was definitely westbound, as confirmed by the police officer interviewed.

  • Drew Allred January 17, 2014 at 7:05 am

Rachel, you had us wondering – so we verified, and the incident was westbound but it was on Red Cliffs Drive, at the intersection of Mall Drive.

    Thanks
