Former Hurricane High football and wrestling star Brian Scott has passed away after a battle with leukemia. Scott , 20, passed around 12:50 a.m. on Tuesday with his family around him, said Hurricane football head coach Chris Homer.
An announcement was made to students and faculty during class Tuesday at Hurricane High School. Scott was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia at age 18. In October 2012, he began treatment for his cancer with chemotherapy. His treatment and his disease created the need for numerous blood transfusions. A blood drive was held at the Hurricane LDS Stake Center in his honor on Jan. 11.
Scott was a member of the first Hurricane High School football team to win a state title since 1948 and was named MVP for the 3A classification in Utah. He also had an undefeated wrestling season which resulted in his third straight state championship. He received a football scholarship to Southern Utah University and was planning to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Uruguay.
Scott rushed for 1,638 yards and 31 touchdowns for the undefeated Tigers in 2011 and had 2,573 yards and 40 touchdowns in his high school career. In a nearly blinding snowstorm in Salt Lake City on Nov. 18, 2011, Scott rushed for 108 yards and the game’s only three touchdowns as Hurricane beat Desert Hills 21-0 to win the 3A State Championship. He recorded four tackles on defense as well and rarely left the field in that championship game.
After the game, Scott summed up his experience as a Hurricane football player thusly: “Playing at Hurricane has meant so much to me and my friends. It has taught me so much about life.”
He also was a dominant wrestler, going 48-0 his senior season and compiling a 141-5 record over three years at HHS while capturing three state titles.
Funeral services for Scott are Saturday at 10 a.m. at the La Verkin Stake Center, 481 N. Main St. Metcalf Mortuary will be officiating. A viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary in Hurricane.

So sorry for your loss. My son had Leukemia too. I think it happens to the best of them. What wonderful accomplishments he had in such a short time here on earth. Go serve from above. Prayers for your friends and family.
We do not know why God takes a youth like this away from the rest of us when he was preparing to serve others and obviously an exceptional person off and on the field. But it still breaks my heart for his mother and family.
