CEDAR CITY — With a distinct size advantage and some hot-shooting guards, Snow Canyon made quick and easy work of the Canyon View Falcons Wednesday night, doubling up CV 50-25 to stay undefeated in region play.
“I was worried about a lot of things because the kids hadn’t played since before Christmas,” SC coach James Brown said. “I was especially worried about conditioning and intensity, but I was really pleased. We came out pretty focused and played pretty crisply.”
The Warriors allowed just five points in the first quarter in building up a 12-5 lead. Hayden Anderson and Warner Rigby had key buckets in the quick start and Chase Jenkins hit a 3-pointer early.
“They double-teamed Nate (Gottfredson) right out of the gate,” Brown said. “But our guards made some shots early to make them pay. Later on, the guards did a great job of getting Nate the ball in a position where he could go up and get a quick score.”
Snow Canyon built the lead to 27-17 by halftime. Gottfredson had six in the quarter and finished with a game-high 19 points and added nine rebounds.
In the second half, the Warriors really clamped down on defense, allowing just five points in the third quarter and one Ryan Jensen field goal and a total of three points in the fourth quarter.
“We played really good defense tonight,” Brown said. “I don’t believe we gave up very many uncontested shots. Canyon View played zone and that slowed things up a bit and then they really tried to slow the game down for us.”
The Warriors had just five points of their own in the final stanza, but the game was long gone to blowout city by then.

“That’s a hard place to shoot the basketball, especially from the perimeter,” Brown said. “Canyon View is a much-improved team and we just wanted to make sure we went into their place with some intensity and we wanted to avoid any overconfidence.”
Snow Canyon, 7-4 overall and 2-0 in Region 9, got eight points and five assists from Jacob Frei and Jenkins also had eight points. Anderson had 10 rebounds for SC, which plays another road game Friday night, at Dixie.
The Falcons, 3-9 and 0-2, got 12 points from Koy Huxford and 8 from Jensen. CV plays Friday at Pine View.
