IVINS – Mayor Chris Hart, Councilman Cheyne McDonald and Councilman Steven Roberts were sworn in for another term at a special meeting of the Ivins City Council on Jan. 2.

“In the last four years, we’ve been able to see some great things happen for the city,” Roberts said. “I’m both humbled and honored to have the confidence of the voters again.”

All were re-elected in the 2013 municipal general election. Hart ran unopposed, while the council members defeated candidate Crystal Lewis to retain their seats.

Priorities in the near future include an ongoing road maintenance project, establishing a distribution system allowing neighborhoods to save drinking water by using non-culinary water to irrigate and a plan to convert the Ivins Reservoir into a watersports recreation area. City officials will also look to certify Ivins as an International Dark Sky Community and expand its recognition in the Southwest as a mecca for the arts.

“We’ve accomplished much of what I had on my first four-year agenda, and even more,” Hart said. “We have some marvelous commercial opportunities that will be maturing within the next couple of years. I’m looking forward to our city’s future.”

“I have the opportunity to represent the people (of Ivins) for four more years and I don’t take it lightly,” McDonald said. “My main priority is fiscal responsibility. I don’t always agree with everything the council does, but that’s why we’re a panel. We work together to decide what’s best for the community.”

The term for these officials lasts until 2018.
