Don W. Beus

Beus, Don o obit(July 26, 1942 – January 4, 2014)

On the evening of January 4, 2014, Don Wesley Beus quietly passed away at the age of 71, surrounded by his loving family and friends.  Don was born in Ogden, Utah on July 26, 1942 to William James and Leone Blood Beus.  He had three older brothers and two younger sisters.

Don grew up in Utah, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington, and graduated from Othello High School in Washington.  He attended Brigham Young University and graduated in 1967 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.  He was a Lieutenant in the United States Naval Corp and served for 4 years as a naval pilot, in the Vietnam War, flying 150 missions and earning numerous medals of Honor.

Beus, Don MilitaryHe married Margaret Joyner in 1968 and together had three children, they later divorced.  In 1978 he married Susan Beus, and together they raised their children.

He worked hard on the family farm for many years, in addition to working most of his life as an electrical engineer supervisor in Alaska.  He lived his life and the principles of the gospel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He served a two-year full time mission in Florida from 1961 to 1963.  He had a love for family history and served a family history mission with his wife, Susan, in St George, Utah.  He served as the treasurer of the Washington City, Sons of the Utah Pioneers. He enjoyed flying, parasailing, and gardening.

Don is survived by his wife of 35 years, Susan Beus; his children: Scott (Maria), Vickie (Jared) Brown, Stephanie Beus and Lisa Powers; his step-children: Don (Valerie) Wright, Debbie (Blaine) Atkinson, Lori (Gordon) Smith, and Tom Mitchell, Jr; 25 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by his brothers; Spencer (Nani), Kent (Clara), and Gary (Carol); his sisters: Terry (Jerry) Conklin and Sandy Burch; and many loving nephews and nieces.

Funeral Services

  • Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 11, at 11 a.m. at the Fairway Ward Chapel, 860 N. Fairway Dr., Washington, UT.
  • A viewing will be held Friday, Jan. 10, from 5-7 p.m. at Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S Bluff Street, St. George, UT, and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Fairway Ward Chapel.
  • Interment will be in the Washington City Cemetery.

The family wishes to extend their appreciation and gratitude to nurses: Jen, Mindy and Vanessa, and CNA Brian with Dixie Home Hospice, for their dedication and tender loving care, and to the many family, friends, and neighbors who offered love and support during this time.
