ST. GEORGE — An accident on Thursday evening slowed traffic for nearly 45 minutes on Bluff Street and caused a brief closure of the northbound interchange from Diagonal Street onto Bluff.
A tan car heading northwest on Diagonal collided with another vehicle while attempting to turn north onto Bluff Street.
“The driver looked out, he told me he thought it was clear,” St. George Police Officer Jamison Hale said. “He started to pull out and hit a black car that was going north on Bluff.”
Both vehicles sustained damage when the front passenger side of the black sedan made contact with the front driver’s side of the tan car.
This sort of accident is not uncommon at the Diagonal-Bluff intersection, Hale said. Drivers often miss the north exit onto Bluff which has its own dedicated lane and instead turn at the stop sign. They don’t always remember that turning right at this point puts them in the way of oncoming traffic.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene and the driver of the tan car was cited for failing to yield after the stop sign.
