SOUTHERN UTAH – The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for parts of Washington, Iron and Kane counties from 10 p.m., Saturday, to 11 a.m., Sunday.
Affected areas – Utah’s Dixie, Zion National Park and southern mountains, including the areas of George, Loa, and Panguitch and Bryce Canyon.
Winds – North 30-40 mph with gusts of 45-55 mph.
Timing – Winds will continue to increase late this evening near the mouths of north to south-oriented canyons. The strongest winds will occur between midnight and sunrise. The winds will then gradually diminish during the morning hours on Sunday.
Impacts – Wind-sensitive operations will be affected. The winds may also affect travel along Interstate 15 through Washington County.
Precautionary/preparedness actions – A wind advisory means that sustained wind speeds of at least 31 mph or gusts of 45 mph are expected. motorists in the advisory area should be prepared for sudden gusty cross winds which can make driving difficult.

We had some pretty good wind overnight in Hurricane, but I went to St George Sunday morning, and there was hardly a breeze there. There must have been some kind of “eddy effect” as St George’s haze had spread to the surrounding mountains.
