ST. GEORGE – The Sears Art Museum Gallery at the Dixie State University Dolores Doré Eccles Fine Arts Center has opened a new winter ensemble exhibit entitled “Sky: Feet on the Ground,” featuring the works of 11 of the region’s best artists. The exhibit is free to the public to view, Monday through Friday, through Jan. 17, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Many of the works featured as part of the “Sky: Feet on the Ground” exhibit highlight the glorious and famous “red rock and blue sky” of southern Utah. The artists spotlighted in the exhibit include Deb Durban, Joy Stein, Sandy Bell, Fae Ellsworth, John Welsh, Cyrus Mejia, Fiona Phillips, LuAnn Williams, Bonnie Cazier, AngeLisa Scopes Oliver, and Ginny Northcott.
According to DSU Sears Art Museum Gallery curator Kathy Cieslewicz, many of the exhibited artists live with feet on the red rock and energy directed upward to the sky and ephemeral content. She added that the result is not only a process of creation, but rather it is a dimension of expression.
“The artists question, compare effects, and then choose a variety of processes to record, respond to, and to reflect their experiences,” Cieslewicz said. “Patrons will not go away disappointed. There is something for everyone – traditional realism, abstracted ideas on canvas, watercolors, journals, sculpture, and book arts.”
Also as part of the winter exhibit, the Eccles Fine Arts Center Grand Foyer will feature 3D sculptures created by the tandem of Dan Toone and Josh Toone, along with a photography compilation created by Jodee Toone Bitner.
