Name of deputy shot in Kanarraville released; shooter flown to hospital

CEDAR CITY – The Iron County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the deputy who was shot during a standoff in Kanarraville on Friday. The sheriff’s office has also released the identity of the suspected shooter, who is currently being treated for complications stemming from a gunshot wound he received in the standoff.

According to a statement issued by the Iron County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Kellen Hudson, 27, was shot in the hip while responding to a call about a suicidal subject at a trailer home in Kanarraville at around 1:47 p.m.  Hudson was transported to Valley View Medical Center in Cedar City where he was treated and released a short time later.

The shooter, 41-year-old Grant Louis Biedermann, received a grazing bullet wound to his head, and was also treated at Valley View Medical Center. Biedermann was released later that evening and booked into the Iron County Jail on charges of aggravated assault.

Officials at the jail discovered that Biedermann was suffering from a brain hemorrhage Friday morning. He was immediately transported by Life Flight to a hospital in northern Utah. His condition is unknown at this time.
