LAVERKIN – As the snow flew on Saturday, a few brave souls came out to take part in the LaVerkin Winter Fest, a community celebration hosted by the City of LaVerkin.
Daunting weather conditions forced the cancellation of several activities, including the mayor’s walk and soapbox derby. However, the holiday lights parade went ahead as planned and Sherm Howard took first place, winning a $100 check from the city and a $50 gas card.
Activities at LaVerkin Elementary School included entertainment from students and members of the local Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and the Suzie Snowflake pageant for young girls.
Those who stayed outside participated in the snowman-building competition or browsed food and product vendors, huddling near fire pits to keep warm.
A brilliant fireworks show closed the festival after dark.

Poor Town of LaVerkin…Can’t seem to catch a break. Kudos to the determined folks who attended despite the adversity.
