Two DSU Christmas concerts: Choral ensemble, symphony orchestra

ST. GEORGE — Two concerts will ring in the holiday season this weekend at Dixie State University. Friday, DSU’s choral ensemble, consisting of three choral groups, will perform. Saturday, DSU’s symphony orchestra will perform. Both shows are special holiday season concerts.

Choral concert; Friday night

The choral concert, will present a number of holiday classics and carols the whole family will enjoy. The choral groups performing will include the concert choir under the direction of Norman Lister, the Women’s Chorus led by Rachel Cox and the Chamber Singers, conducted by Dr. Ken Petersen.

Symphony orchestra concert; Saturday night

The Symphony Orchestra concert, under the direction of Dr. Paul Abegg, will highlight DSU’s symphony orchestra. The orchestra will perform a number of holiday classics, including such favorites as “Sleigh Ride” and selections from “The Nutcracker,” among many other popular carols. The Orchestra will also be joined on stage by the Hurricane High School Orchestra and the local band PANGEA.

In addition, in what has become a Christmas tradition at DSU, the evening will be highlighted by a performance of Bill Holcombe’s arrangement of “T’was the Night Before Christmas,” featuring DSU first lady Margaret D. Nadauld as narrator.

After this concert, the DSU Symphony Orchestra will perform twice during the 2014 spring semester, beginning with the ensemble’s winter concert on Saturday, Feb. 22, followed by the season finale spring concert on Saturday, Apr. 19. The Orchestra will also perform during Dixie State’s centennial commencement ceremonies on Friday, May 2, 2014.
