DSU’s Percussion, Jazz Ensemble holiday concerts

ST. GEORGE – The Dixie State University Percussion and Jazz Ensembles, both under the direction of DSU Music Department Chair Glenn Webb, will take the stage for a pair of holiday concerts  in the Dolores Dore’ Eccles Fine Arts Center Mainstage Theater on the DSU campus this week.

The Percussion Ensemble concert will take place on Tuesday, at 7:30 p.m., and will feature music from Argentina, Australia, Mexico, Uganda and the United States. The show will also include two of the very first compositions written for percussion instruments, along with an adaptation of Eric Whitacre’s “Sleep” and Rush’s “Tom Sawyer.”

The Jazz Ensemble will take the stage the following evening on Wednesday, at 7:30 p.m., and will perform several holiday favorites in a jazz style. The troupe, which will be joined on stage by DSU’s Faculty Jazz Combo, will also play selections from jazz artists such as Michael Buble, Thelonius Monk, and Oliver Nelson.

General admission tickets for each concert will be available at the door for $5 for adults and $1 for DSU students and faculty and staff with current ID. High school musicians may receive complementary tickets by contacting the DSU Music Department at 435-652-7790.
