ST. GEORGE – The Dixie State University board of trustees elected David Clark as the new vice chair for the institution’s governing body during its meeting Friday morning.

Clark, who has served on the board since May of 2012, replaces Jon Pike, who resigned his position as vice chair following his recent election as the new mayor of St. George City. Pike, who was appointed to the board in 2010, and served as vice chair since April of 2012, will remain on the DSU board of trustees through the end of his appointed term in 2017.

“I love being involved with Dixie State University,” Pike said. “I’d love to maintain the connection between the city and the university. I really appreciated working under the leadership of President (Stephen) Nadauld and our incredibly wise and great Chair Steve Caplin.”

Clark has worked for Zions Bank for 35 years and is currently the bank’s Southern Utah regional vice president. In addition, he represented Utah’s 74th District (Washington County) in the state House of Representatives from 2001-12. In 2006, Clark was elected to serve as majority leader and in November 2008, he was voted speaker of the house. He has also been an active member of the St. George Rotary Club and was recognized as a Rotarian of the Year in 1998.

A resident of Santa Clara, Clark received his Bachelor of Science degree from Brigham Young University where he played football under legendary coach LaVell Edwards. In addition, he also holds degrees from the National Commercial Lenders Graduate School and the Pacific Coast School of Banking. In 2010, Clark served as DSC’s 99th commencement speaker and was awarded an honorary doctorate in humanities as part of the ceremony.

“I appreciate the chance to serve this great institution,” Clark said. “(Dixie State) has had an amazing transformation and there is more opportunity for this institution to grow.”

Dixie State University’s board of trustees is the institution’s governing board, appointed by the governor and approved by the state Senate. The board acts as a liaison between the institution and the community. In addition, the board of trustees assists and approves the university’s mission, traditions, strategic planning, policies, budgets, new degree programs and honorary degrees. The trustees are also involved in alumni relations and fundraising.
