HURRICANE — Last Thursday, Red Cliffs Boulevard in St. George was the scene of multiple accidents in a short period of time. Yesterday, it was Hurricane’s turn as Tuesday afternoon saw two accidents on State Street, involving a total of 7 damaged vehicles, and sent one man and one 5-year-old child to the hospital.
The first accident happened at around 3:15 p.m. “Five vehicles were stopped, or coming to a stop, in the westbound lane at the light near 6300 State Street,” Hurricane Police Sgt. Brandon Buell said. A vehicle, approaching from behind, failed to stop at the light, Buell said, smashing into the line of stopped cars.
A total of six vehicles were damaged in the accident, Buell said, and one man was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening wounds. Two of the vehicles had to be towed and one driver was cited for following too closely.
Another accident occurred just a few hours later in downtown Hurricane. Buell said that a gray Honda SUV was traveling west on State Street and was attempting to turn left onto Main Street.
“The grey Honda made a left turn and a blue Volkswagen ran into the passenger side of the SUV,” Buell said. A baby and two children were in the Honda when the accident happened. One of the children, a five-year-old boy, was taken by ambulance to Dixie Regional Medical Center where Buell said he was listed in stable condition.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene and no citations were issued, as the cause of the accident is still being investigated, said Buell.
“As traffic increases during the holiday season, it’s important that people keep their eyes and minds on the road,” Sgt. Buell said. “This time of year there are a lot of things going on in our lives that might interfere with our focus on driving,” he said, “we just want to remind people out there to stay focused and stay safe during the holiday season.”
