ST. GEORGE — A 9-story tall Christmas tree strapped to an extra long semitrailer made its way through St. George today. The massive tree stopped at the Red Cliffs Mall on its way to the Capitol in Washington D.C.
Approximately 200 visitors gathered at the mall to see the tree and sign their names on the giant banners strapped to the outside of the trailer. A handful of local youth musical groups performed Christmas songs for the visitors to enjoy.
The semitrailer, heaped high with the massive Engelmann Spruce tree was accompanied by another semitrailer filled with 65 ‘”companion trees,” tree skirts and thousands of ornaments headed east across the U.S. from Washington state.
The tree was harvested in the Colville National Forest in eastern Washington. This is the second year that the capitol Christmas tree was cut from a forest in Washington state. St. George was one of the middle stops among 25 stops across the country.

Awesome 🙂 The Capital Christmas Tree was spectacular! We also loved see our favorite local girls “Mandee and the ABC girls” !!! What an amazing talented group of young sisters! We can’t wait for their album “Shine Brightly” to get finished! Thank you St.George for a great gathering! 🙂
I’m sure there must have been more than 200 people. We visited at 6:15 and people were still parking to take a look.
St. George’s very own Bevan Killpack was in charge of selecting the National Christmas tree in 1996 when Utah was the representative state.
