UPDATED 7:37 p.m.
ST. GEORGE – Children playing southeast of Colorado City Monday afternoon happened upon bones in the desert that have since been identified as human remains.
Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies and detectives responded to the area at about 12:43 p.m. Monday, Patricia Carter, spokesman for the Mohave County Sheriff’s Department, said.
The bones were recovered by the Sheriff’s Office and identification is pending autopsy results.
Although she had yet to receive information on the condition of the body, “DNA is going to be a major factor here,” Carter said, “because there’s not much more to go on.”
Details related to the children involved in discovering the bones, their age, number, the exact location and what they were doing, have not yet been made available to her by the detectives, Carter said.
UPDATE: The children, ages yet unspecified, were hiking and picking up firewood with their mother when the remains were found, Carter said. The location the body was found is more specifically described as between Colorado City and a stretch of Bureau of Land Management land about nine-tenths of a mile from U.S. Highway 389.
The body was “just bones, no flesh,” Carter said, and gender has still not been identified.
This is a developing story and the investigation is ongoing.

It has long been rumored that (male) babies had been “removed” from the male population to lessen the competition for the females. Sounds about right….just amazed they weren’t discovered sooner.
Bigoted piece of trash. How dare you immediately conclude it was a religious based homicide to thin out the male population. You have no idea what’s going on with it. To instantly point fingers at a religious group and blame them,in mockery, is blatant ignorance. Go repent.
Ignorance. LOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do you know what the most blatant case of ignorance is? Ignoring child rape. And that is Colorado City in a nutshell. Double Tap is right on. And where are they hiding all the down syndrome kids? A DIRECT result from all the in-breeding.
And there you have it…..
Thank you Real Life.
Not surprised… I bet if more people went out there and poked around they’d find several more shallow graves..
Where does it say these remains were that of a male baby?
I know the kid that found them. They were not baby bones. Above it states that the gender was not specified yet. Of course stories are going to be tossed and changed. Stop blaming people for things you heard from someone else or from the news. A lot of the publicity from around here is not completely correct. I don’t know what gets out there from roomers, but i do know that a lot of the news is incorrect.
The stereotyping of the “Colorado city people and their religious beliefs” is bad. please stop. the root of their beliefs is possibly a lot like most of yours. Their leaders were just corrupt.
sorry that was supposed to be posted on the wall not on your post.
WTF your trippin smoke a little more. Male babies removed are you for real? Where do people get off on such B.S. Yes C.C. has its problems just like any other place in the entire world. Theres good and there’s bad people but its hardly fair to judge everyone the same. Because were not all the … same. Were unique individuals who deserve to be treated as such. And cutting down the male population. Seriously!!???
Ed. ellipsis
LOL “unique individuals” you need to dig deeper my friend you may be surprised on what you defend
wow! i can’t believe this wasn’t found sooner. I mean there is a lot of open land out there but almost everyone plays in that dirt in one way or another
I am not surprised that is a big open area and some of it is rarely touched if at all. People who go to explore out that way can get lost and do. I wouldn’t be surprised if it is related to colorado city and I wouldn’t be surprised if it isn’t.
This pisses me off big time. We have no right 2 judge anyone! It says so in The Bible! God will Judge us & those of us whose are bigoted pieces of pond scum will be feeling pretty sorry for yourselves. All this FILTH & LIES in the news is designed to bigot people. I happen 2 know a little bit about out there & I know for a FACT that what’s in the news is LIES!!! Go ahead & flame me. It don’t matter. This reminds me of Missouri.
Off my soap box 4 now. There has been a (I think) a missing poster for some guy a couple yrs back who I don’t know if he was ever found. I’m hoping some family will be able 2 get their loved 1 home.
You refer to Mathew 7:1-6 in the Bible. I refer you to 1 Corinthians 5: 11-12; Hebrew . My friend we aren’t to judge where a person stands with God. But we must discern both good and evil in our own actions and actions of others in order to grow in wisdom and avoid falling into problems ourselves. Please do not get discernment confused with judgement, I hear so many say “don’t Judge me” But there has to be discernment of both good and evil actions because that’s where wisdom is. And utrefugee, you don’t want to fall into problems of your own. If you read your comment there is just as much hate coming from you as the people you speak of. hypocrite? you be the judge.

Hahahaha….you guys really crack me up. Reminds me of what I told my daughter’s first boyfriend when he came to pick her up for their first date.
I told him: “remember that we live in the desert, and I own a backhoe…”
There was no second date.
Get over it, what I posted has been spoken about by former members of that community….take it up with them.
@ Local – I agree with you. My response was in reference to Double Tap’s post above.
I have spent a lot of time out in the Colorado City area myself hiking and exploring, and I have also found human remains myself but they were not of white man they were from Indians.the Colorado City area is rich with Native American artifacts burial sites and campsites so all you ignorent people that are quick to blame someone should step back and think about it. There has been more Indians in that area in the last five thousand years than the people of Colorado city could produce and kill in the last 100 years. So why don’t we use our brains and come to the most likely conclusion that its Indian.
Collecting firewood in the desert? Good luck with that.
How about instead of bashing this person or that community how about lets realize that this person could be someone’s mother, brother, sister, wife, husband, father or even child…lets not be too quick to judge or jump to conclusions
Sheesh! why does everyone assume the worst first?? I was raised in the FLDS faith and even though I don’t agree with it they aren’t all evil. Those mountains are a tricky hike and the human remains could just be a poor person that had an accident hiking or something. And by the way they DO NOT kill the boy babies so there are more girls for men, That is just stupid! (smh)
I’m curious at what age that the individual was at when they passed and the carbon deterioration of the bones. Growing up there I remember one report where a child wandered off by the highway, never to be found again, the child’s footprints stopped at the highway so assumption was that the child was picked up. I read the Las Vegas review where the reporter stated initially that the subject was found in a shallow grave with their hands bound behind their back, I’m sure he should go up for review and to doubletap I’ll admit I have two Down syndrome kin a brother and a sister but it was not from homogamy or your so called inbreeding since their dad was brought into the religion no relations to both mothers. Instead of hitting your hand against that wall twice use that backhoe and knock that wall down, try unbiased common sense.
Phoenicis:
Please re-read what I posted. Comprehend much??? Find the word “inbreeding” anywhere???
i’m wondering if the body is susan powell’s – the woman from northern utah who was murdered by her husband josh powell. i’ve always believed that he drove her down here to get rid of her body (especially since he rented a van soon after her disappearance and took a drive, the miles of which would have been an exact distance from there to here and back). in the beginning, josh powell kept insisting she’d run off with steven kercher, a young man from st. george who went missing around the same time, so in his crazed mind, it would have given him an “out” if her body had been discovered down here, since he could have blamed it on mr. kercher. i pray that whoever it is, his or her family at least finds some peace in finding out what happened to their loved one. so sad… 🙁
as far as all of the arguing here – please keep in mind that these bones mean that someone’s husband/wife, daughter, son, sister or brother lost their life. stop your useless bickering and instead have some respect for that loss, even if none of us knew him or her.
