WASHINGTON CITY – A scooter rider was taken to the hospital after she crashed while swerving to avoid a pickup truck that pulled out in front of her Monday morning. The truck did not stay at the scene and police are asking anyone who may have seen anything related to the crash to contact them.

“At around 8:50 a.m., an 18-year-old woman riding westbound on a scooter had just cleared the Telegraph-Green Springs Drive intersection,” Washington City Police public information officer Ed Kantor said, “when a medium-sized pickup with dark and faded colors pulled out in front of her from the Sinclair gas station parking lot.”

The scooter rider swerved to avoid the pickup and subsequently crashed in the roadway. Witnesses told police the pickup left the scene, also traveling westbound. Kantor said the woman was taken to Dixie Regional Medical Center for evaluation and a possible broken bone.

A single westbound-lane was temporarily shutdown while the police and others investigated and cleared the scene.

The Washington City Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating the pickup involved in the incident. Kantor said anyone with any information can contact the police department through dispatch at 435-634-5730.

Poor kid. I ride a scooter every day. I wish other drivers would slow down and start looking for us.

OK well I just want to say this. Why do I have to take classes and pay for a special license to drive my motorcycle? These scooter people have no class and no test to pass they just drive on their regular license. They need a new law to make them get training to ride a scooter and a special endorsement that I have. I believe anything on the street with a motor is subject to all rules and regulations that everyone has to pass., If you want to take the risk of riding a scooter with no training and no protection on the street for an almost accident. The truck probably did not see her and does not realize what happened. Advice= wear bright colors, wear lights and make yourself more visable. I mean really stand out!! You all say start looking for motorcycles scooters. I say motorcycle and scooters make a statement with your riding outfit and be safe by being seen!!!! If you are wearing bright clothing and get in an accident they wont be able to say they did not see me because look at the precautions I took to be visable to traffic!!!

motorcycle mama – I had to get a motorcycle license when I got a scooter. This involves a written and driving test. When I got a motorcycle, I did not have to take a class, but I did have to retake my driving test because the motorcycle license has different levels. My 150 cc scooter was not in the same level as my motorcycle.
