Salt Lake City – On Wednesday, Gov. Gary R. Herbert will participate in a Ceremonial Signing, declaring November as National Caregiver Awareness Month, and bringing recognition to caregivers in Utah.
Nationally, over 60 million individuals provide caregiving services to a loved one. Fortunately, in Utah and across the nation, the majority of those receiving care are able to do so in their home or the home of a relative.
As a result, family members are able to honor their relative’s wishes to remain at home and save the nation over $450 billion annually in uncompensated care. For these, and many other reasons, it is of utmost importance to support and recognize family caregivers.
“Caregivers are a crucial and ever increasing population in our society,” Utah Division of Aging and Adult Services Director Nels Holmgren said. “We have great admiration, respect and gratitude for their efforts and appreciate Governor Herbert’s attention and commitment to their service.”
