WASHINGTON CITY – A portion of Red Cliffs Drive to the Telegraph Street intersection resembled a demolition derby Thursday morning after three separate accidents happened along a one-mile stretch within a single hour. The morning culminated in a four-vehicle collision at the intersection of South Green Springs Drive and West Telegraph Street. The collision occurred when an elderly woman driving a tan Mercury Grand Marquis made an illegal lefthand turn, causing multiple collisions and blocking traffic at the busy intersection for a short time.
The accident happened just after 10:15 a.m. Witnesses at the scene said the woman, who was traveling northbound on 3050 East between The Home Depot and Albertsons in Washington, was stopped at the intersection in the right hand turning lane, yet she was signaling to turn left.
When other vehicles lined up behind her to turn right onto Telegraph began to honk their horns to hurry her along, the woman made an left-hand turn onto Telegraph, across multiple lanes of traffic, one witness said.
The Grand Marquis was struck in the intersection by two vehicles — a black mini van and a tan Nissan Altima — that were driving south on Green Springs, Ed Kantor, public information officer with the Washington City Police, said. The impact of the collisions pushed the Grand Marquis into a white GMC pickup truck that was stopped at a red light on Telegraph Street in the eastbound lane of travel.
Washington City Police and Gold Cross Ambulance Service responded to the accident. Nobody involved in the accident appeared to be seriously injured, Kantor said, however the driver of the Altima was taken by ambulance to Dixie Regional Medical Center for evaluation.
The driver of the Grand Marquis was cited for improper lane travel and for driving with a denied driver’s license.
The intersection joining Red Cliffs Drive, Telegraph Street, 3050 East and Green Springs Drive is considered one of the busiest and potentially hazardous intersections in Washington City.

I have noticed that you comment frequently on various news article of STG News. Such comments are often judgmental, hypocritical, stereotypical, uneducated, rude or offensive in general. I have always rolled my eyes and looked the other way. However, this time it struck a nerve. I am surprised that a well-educated man such as yourself behaves in this manner. Perhaps you could show some compassion in this instance rather than nit-picking it. This was an elderly retired person, such as yourself.
You struck a nerve with me tia. An elderly person WITHOUT A DRIVERS LICENSE that makes her an idiot. Compassion for someone driving illegally? Would you have the same compassion if she was in her 20’s? Her license was DENIED. That means NO DRIVING. There is a reason its denied- look what happened. My compassion is for the people that she caused damage too.

You know what Dan Lester I think your comment was out of line. Life happens and when serious stuff happens it doesn’t mean always that someone is being irresponsible. For your age you should know this!
The busiest and most dangerous. That’s why they spent millions to “make it safe”, right? Nothing against elderly people, but some just have no business driving. So lucky this accident didn’t cause lifelong injuries or even fatalities.
I completely agree with Dan and Patti. The lady had absolutely NO BUSINESS driving that car. They wouldnt have denied her licence if she was able to drive. This was Idiot behavior. If you dont have a license there is a reason you dont have a licence!! We can all see in this accident why she didnt have one.

I agree with the commenters who state that this person, elderly or not, is an idiot. DENIED driver license means she had NO LICENSE to drive a car to begin with. Knowingly and willfully putting other drivers at risk and danger, IS irresponsible!
I look forward to becoming elderly so I can voluntarily turn in my drivers license when it is warranted. I don’t want to be responsible for hurting or worse, any other drivers and/or pedestrians.

Maybe if people would quit running red lights this kind of thing would not happen. For example: the stop sign just a block up needs to be patroled better. NOBODY STOPS! My Mother and Grandmother travel through that intersection everyday, and it stresses me out to think that they will one day be involved in an accident in that area. The funny thing is they teach Utonians to drive in High school but nothing seems to sink in.
