Debris pile burn to begin in Zion Canyon

ZION NATIONAL PARK – Zion Fire Management will begin burning the large debris pile near the old Watchman Helispot Friday morning, if conditions are favorable.

This burn pile consists of an accumulation of vegetative debris – tree branches, twigs, and needles – that were removed from the park during several hazardous fuels reduction projects, and roadside and campground maintenance.

The pile burn is an annual occurrence in the park, and will be monitored throughout its duration. Although park visitors may see open flames and/or smell smoke in the vicinity of the piles, there should be little impact to the canyon from the smoke, and the burn should be completed by the end of the day.
