Hurricane man arrested for multiple burglaries

HURRICANE – A man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a string of burglaries in both Hurricane and LaVerkin over the past two months.

According to probable cause statements, Jesse Farr, 32, of Hurricane, was indicated to be a possible accomplice in a series of burglaries in the Hurricane area by two suspects who were arrested for the alleged burglaries. Farr was brought into the police station for questioning and told police he had entered a home along with the other two suspects and taken items. He also said he had helped them unload items taken from a storage unit.

Farr continued, according to the probable cause statement,  telling police he had also taken a used set of tires from a tire shop and taking jewelry from a family member’s home.  He also told police he was currently using heroin and other drugs. He subsequently led police to the home he had been staying at and showed them where the used tires were, along with a plastic box containing drug paraphernalia and substances believed to be marijuana and methamphetamine.

A LaVerkin resident had contacted police in September and reported several spools of copper wire had been taken from her shop. According to the probable cause statement filed by the Hurricane City Police, the woman, a relation of Farr’s, said she had seen Farr around the property and that he was not “allowed to be anywhere near (the) shop or property.

The two original suspects were picked up by Hurricane City Police on Oct. 13, and provided information implicating Farr in the burglary of the shop, leading officers with Hurricane City and LaVerkin police departments to bring Farr in for questioning Oct. 29.

Farr was very cooperative with police during the investigation, LaVerkin Police Chief Lloyd Watkins said, however Farr was also charged with obstruction of justice after he admitted that he and another accomplice stripped and bent the copper wire before bringing it to the scrap dealer.

“He stated that he bent the metal so it would be harder for us to know it was the metal he stole,” LaVerkin Police Detective Travis Romney wrote in his report. “He stated that he knew he was not supposed to be in the shop, and that it was burglary and theft.”

Overall, Farr faces two third-degree felonies and one second-degree felony for the burglaries, one third-degree felony for drug possession, and misdemeanor charges related to drug possession, theft, and obstruction of justice.

Ed. Note: Persons charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.

This is probably the same guy that broke into our storage unit and stole a bunch of stuff a couple weeks ago.

Why is the guy getting an obstruction of justice charge when he came clean?

Obstruction of justice for cutting up some copper……that is just forcing it. I think he has plenty of charges the police don’t need to make up stupid ones.
