ST. GEORGE – Police arrested a St. George man Friday after going on an alleged shopping spree with another person’s credit card.
St. George Police Sgt. Sam Despain said police were contacted by an acquaintance of Zane Dodd, 18, of St. George, who claimed Dodd had taken his credit card. After tracking purchases made with the stolen card, the alleged victim helped direct the police to Target where they contacted Dodd.
According to the probable cause statement, Dodd had used the credit card to purchase video games at Target, and also used it at Subway, Wal-Mart, and Wendy’s. He also attempted to withdraw money from the credit card holder’s account at Flying J and Chevron gas stations.
“He went on a spending spree,” Despain said.
After Dodd was arrested police also found a small bag filled with a substance suspected to be marijuana.
Dodd has been charged with eight class-B misdemeanor offenses for unlawful use of a credit, one class-A misdemeanor offense for possession of stolen property (items bought with the card), one class-B misdemeanor for drug possession and three third-degree felony counts related to unlawful acquisition of a credit card and forgery (electronically signing for purchases made with a stolen card). He also faces an additional class-B misdemeanor out of Washington City for unlawful use of a credit card.
“Each time (the card) is used,” Despain said, “its a separate offense.”
