WASHINGTON CITY – Residents from Washington and Iron Counties gathered on the Washington Parkway bridge over Interstate 15 on Saturday to express their dissatisfaction with President Obama.
The group was a part of a national protest movement known as Overpasses for Obama’s Impeachment. Protester Harlan Monnett of La Verkin said that this was the second such protest, to his knowledge, in Washington County. The first was in August, and took place on the Bluff Street overpass in St. George.
The protesters expressed frustration with not only Obama’s policies but also with the bipartisan politics that led to the recent partial shutdown of the federal government.
“I’m a registered Republican, but I won’t be when I register this time around,” St. George resident Dan McAffee said. “I’ve decided that I’m more of a Libertarian.”
Bekkah Norris of St. George said that she came out to the protest because she was concerned about President Obama’s support of a proposed bill to ban “military-style assault weapons.”
“My right to keep and bear arms is important to me. I believe in fully protecting yourself,” Norris said. “I’m a certified NRA rifle and shotgun instructor, and I really don’t like his gun laws.”
McAffee said that he believes government regulation is suffocating the economy.
“They are constantly trying to regulate us. Now where is all our work going? It’s going overseas,” McAffee said. “The government just turns everything into an enormous bureaucracy, and all of a sudden it explodes into this huge thing and you can’t cut through all the red tape.”
Maureen Decker, of Cedar City, was frustrated when she found herself out of work when the government shutdown put her out of a job. Decker worked in the service industry at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. When the parks closed, her bosses asked her to stay on.
“They were keeping us there and we weren’t being paid,” Decker said. Her bosses told her “just in case they do reopen you have to stay here, but we don’t want you touching anything or doing any work,” she said.
Decker chose to return to Cedar City to find work, but she said that the whole experience has left her fed up with the two-party political system.
“If they’re going to butt heads, I don’t want to be a part of any of it,” Decker said. “I’m proud to be an American, but I’m not proud that some of our politicians are Americans.”

I would love to go to an “impeach Mike Lee” gathering. He and Ted Cruz cost the US $24 billion dollars with their government shutdown.
Feel free to do so, you have that right. Gather up some friends and supporters and go exercise your 1st Amendment right. That’s what it is there for!
I appreciate their cause, and I applaud them for being active. Now where is the outrage for the local politics that have gone awry?

So, on what grounds did these folks want to impeach Obama? The fact that they don’t like him? Sorry, that’s not an impeachable offense. The fact that he was re-elected? Also not impeachable. The fact that his signature legislation passed the legislative, executive, and judicial branches, and survived a Republican-concocted government shutdown? Sorry, still not impeachable.
Here’s what many of my friends here in Utah seem to not understand: the way it works in this country is, you voice your opinion about who should be elected, and enough of your fellow Americans agree with you, that person will be elected. If it turns out most Americans disagree with you, sorry, your guy doesn’t get elected.
If you don’t get your way, you just try harder next time.
Instead, all we’ve seen since 2008 is a big long Tea Party temper tantrum.

How can they impeach an ILLEGAL PRESIDENT? Arrest maybe? Charged with TREASON?

None of those reasons they mentioned for impeaching him are actually impeachable offenses. The way to get rid of politicians who support things you don’t like is through voting, not impeaching. Besides, wouldn’t it be better to spend their time being FOR something instead of against something?

In the last presidential election there were about FIVE million more “lefties” than “righties” exercising their right to vote. How many are in Utah? Hard to say, but obviously not enough (yet) to affect voting outcomes in statewide races. But they’re coming. And yes, some of them can be rude and insulting, just as many on the other side can.

Politics is ingrained in your blood. You all need to find something better to do with your lives than dwell on the negative. Go buy stuff, and instead of keeping it in your closets, distribute it to the poor. I’m sure some would appreciate just one simple act.
There’s plenty of reasons to impeach the president. But i don’t think it would ever happen. Preside.ts have been impeached and have resigned over far less criminal actions. But those were to set the stage to let people think its possible that a treasonous administration could get impeached in the future, when in all actuality, the whole thing is rigged. The Congress can’t do anythng about it and the only ones able to do somethng need to march on Washington armed and ready to handle business. Otherwise it won’t happen…
I think its incredible that there are still so many authoritarian loving statists that are happy being serfs to a system like the one we have, without even having one ounce of criticism for what is so obviously criminal nd unconstitutional and treasonous. How any. Laws, rights and international law has been broken by the last two administrations? A lot. War crimes and crimes against humanity for starters. Or how about the fact this pres isn’t even legally able to be a pres.
We are not political in anyway. Has anyone read anything at all on Obamacare or spoken with anyone who has signed up for it? I vote to fire them all.
