APPLE VALLEY – A Chevy Blazer towing a travel trailer lost control on state Route 59 near Apple Valley today, flipping the trailer and blocking all lanes of travel for some time this afternoon, upon which a secondary rear-end collision occurred in the backed up traffic.
Utah Highway Patrol responded to the first accident at 1:59 p.m., Sgt. Dan Ferguson said.
“An ‘80s model Chevy Blazer, that kind of lifted up and was tricked out, was heading eastbound carrying a 40-foot travel trailer,” Ferguson said. “The trailer began whipping back and forth and the driver ended up losing control of both the truck and the trailer.”
The trailer actually detached from the truck, he said, and ended up rolling, flipping upside down, blocking lanes of travel in both directions. The truck did not roll, Ferguson said, and there were no injuries reported.
As is the UHP’s concern when accidents occur backing up traffic, Ferguson said, while this accident was being cleaned up there was a secondary rear-ender as a result of the traffic jam. Details of the secondary crash were not yet available.

Towing a 40 ft travel trailer with an 80’s blazer? Take his driver’s license away. Too many idiots think that because their vehicle has a hitch and has the power to move a trailer that it is ok to tow said trailer.
Especially when the Blazer is jacked up and tricked out. Totally throws off the balance of the travel trailer.
The sad thing is, that for a few bucks, you can buy load leveler hitches and anti sway bars. They really do work. And of course, a bit of common sense helps too.

Thank you everyone for your genuine concern. I am glad to see that the paper reports the truth. Our trailer was only 18 foot not 40 and the Jimmy is lifted a little, but not anywhere near what all the trucks in the area are. As for tricked out… I guess the new fender flares my husband just put on look too nice against the old paint because that is about all that has been done. We were going very slow and caught a gust of wind. There really is nothing that could have been done and I am very grateful that the Lord was watching over us because it could have been so much worse. So thanks again for your wonderful comments. I love coming to read a story about something that happened to my family and only see negative crap. I only hope that if anything ever happened to you or a family member that others treat you with respect instead of just assuming the worst.
