CEDAR CITY – Pine View’s defense might just be sick of the Panthers offense getting all the headlines. So, for the second straight week, the PV defenders stole the show.
Jaden Peterson returned a tipped ball for a touchdown and Pine View forced five turnovers en route to a 21-14 victory over Cedar on a cool, windy Friday night in Iron County.
“Our defense played great tonight,” Pine View coach Ray Hosner said. “That pick-six at the end of the first half put us up 21-7 and was huge. Parker Ferris tipped it and Jaden Peterson picked it off and took it to the house.”
Both teams had problems holding onto the ball, with Pine View dropping a half-dozen passes and losing a couple of fumbles.

“It was mostly a mental thing,” Hosner said. “The wind was blowing and the ball was cold and hard. But hey, no excuses. We’ve got to focus more.”
The Panthers didn’t score after halftime, and Cedar made a game of it by driving the length of the field for a TD in the third quarter. But the drive of nearly 20 plays and 80 yards took almost the entire quarter, leaving it at 21-14 with just a quarter to play.
The Redmen would not get past the Pine View 40-yard line the rest of the game and the lone penetration into PV territory ended with a Ferris interception.
Cedar led 7-0 early in the game after an interception set up a short field for the Redmen. But the lead didn’t last as Bladen Hosner had an 11-yard TD in the first quarter to tie the game and moments later Jack Bangerter put the Panthers up for good on a long pass from Kody Wilstead.
Peterson’s interception return just before halftime rounded out the scoring for Pine View, which improved to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in region play.
The Redmen, 3-4 and 1-2, play at Snow Canyon next Thursday night.
The Panthers, who are giving up just 15 points a game the last three weeks, visit Hurricane next Thursday. The Tigers have beaten Pine View four straight times, dating back to 2009.
