Shutdown: Visitors ignore closure order, Grand Canyon National Park reacts with closure of Highway 64

GRAND CANYON, Ariz.  Grand Canyon National Park has closed US Highway 64 within the park boundary. Beginning at 8 a.m. yesterday, visitors planning on using Highway 64 are advised to make alternate plans for traveling between the towns of Tusayan and Cameron.

Grand Canyon National Park, like all 401 National Park Service units, closed the park on October 1 as the result of the government shutdown. Highway 64 initially remained open for thru traffic and all overlooks and pull-outs were closed to the public as part of the park closure.

While the two-lane highway remained open many visitors ignored the park closure order and removed barricades at overlooks and pullouts, parked cars, tour buses, and RVs along both sides of the highway and in the middle of the roadway, completed dangerous U-turns, and pedestrians ran across the road in front of moving traffic causing several near misses.

Highway 64 is now closed to all nonresident traffic for the safety and protection of travelers, staff and the resource.

National Lampoons Vaction with the Griswalds: Scene from the shut down of Walley World.

Marty Moose: Sorry folks, we’re closed for 2 weeks to clean and repair America’s favorite family fun park! Sorry! A-huh a-huh a-huh Clark: (kicks sign)

Ellen: Clark, what are you doing?

Clark: We watch his program, we buy his toys, we go to his movies. He owes us! Doesn’t he owe us? Huh? He owes the Griswolds right? Freakin right he owes us!

Ellen: Clark, you’re scaring me Clark: Don’t be scared! I just think somebody owes us an explanation that’s all! (full quote)

      Javier,

Very clever comment. So appropriate, and the comparison of our government to “Wally World” is perfect.

So who owes us the explanation? If the GOP tried to educate the public about the Alinsky connection everyone would cover their ears and run off screaming. We Americans get the President we collectively deserve and for too long we have been going along getting along and kicking the can down the road until Academia and pop media are all indoctrinated to do as Khrushchev once pounded his shoe on the podium and promised to do.

And all it took was the right “Manchurian”-type candidate. It couldn’t have been better if it had been planned before his conception. But then it was, they just had not the perfect person in the perfect place at the perfect time to pull this greatest hoax ever off. One needy never quite accepted boy of an atheist mother, fathered by a communist and given cover by the corrupt American popular media.

The Alinsky method gives the mandate to maximize the misery to get your own way. Ultimate get your own way behavior by the president whom the popmedia never outed as a radical or informed the public about what a community organizer is.

Not many inquiring minds in the country to offset the effects of a propaganda trained organizer of people to get perks from the government for other people.

Where has the 17 Trillion SS’s gone? And will you blame the Republicans for not stopping this train wreck? Better lay it right on the low information voters. Meanwhile some organized civil disobedience by the folks who usually are not the marchers or the anarchists or the disobedient to the laws.

If nothing else mobilize and go to the barricades and honk until you run out of batteries and need emergency government help. You can bet the Democrats, the liberals, the Bill Ayers followers (you know, that man in obMao’s neighborhood–the weatherman bomber).

“The Price of Liberty is Eternal Vigilance” and a little civil disobedience better than bloodshed later on. One poor lady has already gone nuts and tried a run on Washington. How many more must die before the nation gets back on the right track?

The fault lies with the lazy voters who still haven’t a clue about the media not informing them about the man who would be King of the World through the UN–internationalist BHO II.

Lillian speaks some truth, but I hope not playing Into tbe false left right paradigm.
To all my fellow commenters, why are we buying this shutdown carp?- it’s illegitimate and makes no sense. They can spend billions on thi.vs we don’t need butt then shut down things that cost very little to run, which are things we like, but to just make it look like they are pinching pennies.

The “Civil Disobedience” once advocated by Thoreau has begun. Outraged visitors denied access to their National Parks have begun removing barriers and signs restricting their access to their parks. This situation is expected to get worse.

Obama saw this coming, maybe planned it it this way, hence all the ammo buy up, the MRAP vehicles being distributed to local LE, the disposable coffins, FEMA Campos etc, he WANTS an opportunity to declare martial law so he an truly suspend the gov’t and declare himself ruler for life.

That canyon and the road that goes through it belong to the American people. Ignore the barricades, ignore the road closure. Go stand at the edge of the Grand Canyon even if you hadn’t planned to originally.
