Breaking news: Shots fired at the nation’s Capitol

ST. GEORGE  – Multiple news agencies are reporting that shots have been fired in the vicinity of the Capitol building in Washington, D.C.

Initial reports indicate that one police officer has been injured. It is not known how he sustained the injury or the extent of it.

The incident, according to news agencies, began in the vicinity of the White House.

The House and Senate have been put in lock-down status, but reports at 1 p.m. are indicating that lock-down may be lifting.

UPDATE 1:18 p.m. The lockdown in the nation’s Capital has been lifted.

It was called when shots were fired in the vicinity of the Capitol. According to the Los Angeles Times, the alleged shooter was killed during an exchange of gunfire. A police officer was also taken from the site by helicopter after suffering unspecified injuries. The incident began when a vehicle crashed into a barrier at the White House and fled.

UPDATE 1:35 p.m. An eyewitness to the shooting just told CNN that there was a child in the car in which a person who allegedly fired gunshots at the Capitol was killed in an exchange with police. It is not clear now if the woman shot by police in the vicinity of the U.S. Capitol this afternoon actually fired shots. She had created a suspicion after interaction at the White House, sped away from the scene with police in pursuit. Because of her words and actions, officers were given permission to use lethal force to stop the vehicle.

A Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police spokesman said investigators do not believe this was an act of terrorism. Capitol police are expected to hold a press conference on this incident shortly.

UPDATE 2:48 p.m.

Police are saying that the incident began when a woman in a black vehicle pulled up to a checkpoint outside of the White House. They say she had words with a guard at the checkpoint, then sped off after the Secret Service and police were summoned. According to police reports, she sped toward the Capitol, running red lights along the way, until police opened fire on her vehicle.

The Los Angeles Times reported earlier that the woman had died from gunshot wounds. Police have not confirmed the extent of her injuries or those of a police officer who was injured during the incident.

The Capitol was under lockdown as the events unfolded. Witnesses told the Associated Press that at least 20 police cars chased the Lexus toward Capitol Hill, where the car crashed outside the Capitol.

Ed. note: This is a developing story.

Oh dear Molly??? Are those views logical?- he second amendment and the rest of the bill of rights are not debatable. Gun control advocates use inadequate statistics and logic while pushing that agenda. Most citizens for gun control are ignorant to the ideals this country was founded on and don’t understand the Revolutionary War. Most gun control advocates are afraid of guns and think that the inanimate objects shoots people ha. They listen to the propaganda that demonizes gun owners and the second amendment. They fall for the hype and the contradictory and deceitful news stories of all the shootings…. The gun control advocates in mainstream officials in media and govt, know full well why the citizens should have guns but they want the citizens disarmed. The second amendment wasn’t for hunting as our president with a supposed constitutional law degree spewed on the podium. Police arrive after the crime is committed, so how shall someone defend their home? For every crime committed with a gun, there are a hundred crimes that are stopped and deterred with a gun. What makes people think criminals wiot have a gun after gun control?- crime is highest in cities with gun bans bcus criminals know their victims are disarmed is simple logic. Gun law’s relatively

What makes people think criminals wont have a gun after gun control laws exist?- it’s a fantasy idea. And by the way, a criminal is.t going to spend $1000-$1500 on an AR if they need a gun, they by an easy conceivable revolver for $200. And crime is highest in cities with gun bans bcus criminals know their victims are disarmed is simple logic. Same idea behind a gun free zone- they are easy targets. Gun law’s negatively impact law biding citizens. Criminals don’t abide by the law in the first place, so what good does a gun law do? Wake up you gun phobic people!

” Criminals don’t abide by the law in the first place, so what good does a gun law do?”
    .
    .
Murderers don’t abide by laws against killing people, so what good does a murder law do?
    .
Forgers don’t abide by laws against counterfeiting, so what good does a counterfeiting law do?

To Phiilipo, You’re comparing apples to oranges. It doesnt make sense telling a law biding citizen they can’t own a gun bcus some criminal uses a gun and kills someone. Murder and forgery are the crime. Where as gun laws are to control the guns so the examples you gave don’t equate. The criminal will get a gun and use it regardless of the law. So making law biding citizens suffer their second amendment, doesn’t make sense. Law biding citizens aren’t effected by murder law and forgery law. You’re not even getting close to a debate. Come on. Ha

The police, military, and FEMA were holding a drill. Many drills will be going on in the region. Many drills overlap actual events and incidences like this. There were checkpoints not barricades. She didnt ram into a barricade, but probably saw the check point and freaked out. But that doesn’t mean the police are justified to play judge, jury and executioner there on the street. It seems like I’m now in Kims North Korea or Stalins Soviet Union, or Hitler’s Germany, or Maos China, where the police can walk up and shoot a dozen or more rounds point blank through the car window into a lady that simply didn’t stop when a cop wanted her to stop. Is that not odd to anyone? Wake the f¥(k up people! They took five hours to handle a woman driving in the same small area and couldn’t run her of the road or just let her calm down and drive away and follow her and look up her plates or put a spike strip down? They had to make it a long drawn out thing to make it news worthy. It’s hyped so it’s fake or basically illegit. They didn’t even try blocking her in with cop car and she easily drove away when she barely backed into a cop car which was an.easy chance to get her. There is a video and multiple cop cars smashed after the incident. They were ramming their own patrol cars into eachother to make it seem like she did it. No police protocol was followed. What does that say to you? They could have just followed her or went to her house after cross referencing her plates. They had her plates from many city building and cop car cameras. They could’ve shot out her tires or anythng other than what happened. This is ridiculous. Media should get blamed for terrorism for hyping up and lying or misreporting on what happened. She didnt shoot two officers. She was unarmed. You saw video with off camera gunfire. There is very sketchy reporting on this again. The media made it all sound like DC was under some attack and even prematurely claiming terror attack and making it sound like congress was being threatened on some channels. The unpopular and newly Obamacare needed a distraction. And so here it is. There will be more, as there are distractions and events they use after each unpopular or failures, like when they wanted to invade Syria, which we saw another big story after… And the played up govt shut down game makes the citizens suffer and makes congress unpopular, so this was easily spun to make them look like the govt is on the defensive and having to protect themselves and go into lock down. So it seems like they aren’t the bad guy now and keeps the wolf’s in sheep’s clothing. It’s easy to analyze this psych warfare. Then, the dumb sheeple not paying attention are going to confuse the news reports that congress is lifting the “lock down” congress was in during the day, with “govt shut down”, making people think the shut down is over. Ha it’s smoke and mirrors for a portion of the population.. Next point, it’s sickening that congress can give a standing ovation for capital police and say they were so heroic. Is it heroic to execute an unarmed woman in front of her child? Unbelievable. Ive lost faith in humanity if they buy this stuff. or any of the big media stories. Even if the lady killed someone, are you going to cheer on this police and congress reaction? How about they try arresting her, subduing her, show some restraint, or shoot her once in the lower part of the body and not multiple shots up close to kill her Oh it’s bcus they weren’t trained to do that, and they want to acclimate people to allowing the police to do as they wish with no law. Make things look like the wild wild west and Hollywood movies and people will think this is how its supposed to be and the bill of rights don’t matter anymore. It’s beyond words, to sit here and to encourage and praise what a bizarre response this was by the authorities. The string of events is weird, like.with the rest of them. This could’ve been easily part of the drill being held, even though the many week long drills going on from end of September to early November, are doing things unrelated. That’s why I say she mightve not been apart of it, and saw the checkpoints and freaked out with the medication she was on. But either way, the authorities are a joke. Listen to the words they use. Then an eye witness report says, two courageous officers were shot “trying to keep people safe” and blah blah blah, like it’s always to say the police and govt are doing a good job and making you think that it’s their job to keep you safe. It’s not the proper role of govt to protect you. Now it comes out that she didn’t shoot any police.officer so how will they explained this one? That’s a big hole in their case. But she doesn’t need to seek justice bcus now she is dead! Wow. Poor lady and poor child and poor AmeriKa with a K, bcus the other America doesn’t exist anymore.

  • truthseeker October 4, 2013 at 10:42 pm

Philipo, criminals aren’t likely to acquire guns legally to committ crimes with guns, or won’t acquire them legally if there’s a gun control law preventing them from getting one. They will still get a gun and use it. And technically more crimes are committed with clubs, knives, and bats so are we going to ban those also? It’s not the gun that kills people. People kill people. A criminal will use anythng at his disposal to kill or committ crime. It’s simple logic. And it’s not even a big deal when more than a few people get shot in one time in a news story, compared to all the other ways people die in mass, every day. Stop believing media hype. It’s a non sense and a non issue.

“Alleged shooter has been killed”, then this article says “not clear if she actually fired shots”. And bcus of “words and actions” they were allowed to use lethal force?- so she is guilty until proven innocent? There was nothing more drastic here than any crazy police video that people watch on cable tv, where they get arrested, yet it called for lethal force? So what is being said here, is that if you say somethng wrong(1st Amendment) to the police then you can be executed in the street. No arrest, no trial, no jury, just straight up shot? And ponder this, when exactly did she speak to the police if she was in her car the whole time and there wasn’t a traffic stop conducted with her? Every mainstream news article and its details never add up. This article wasn’t too bad though, but still.

Dang, people defending the govt are annoying. It doesn’t matter if she exchanged words with anyone at any checkpoint. That was an illegal checkpoint and can’t be held accountable in the court of law for her action and especially not her words. Do people here understand freedom?- she did not hurt or harm life or property. Driving on roads in DC doesn’t equate to “interacting with the White House”. That is so deceitful. If she wanted to ram the gates of the house, then we’d have a different story completely. I do remember the slimeball news anchors entertaining thst idea. It’s nots tbe case though. She was executed and notthing she did deserves that. What crimes did she commit ‘before it got all crazy’? None.
