WASHINGTON COUNTY – A severe thunderstorm warning and flash flood warning have been issued by the National Weather Service for east-south central Washington County that will remain in effect until around 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. respectively.
Severe thunderstorm warning
The thunderstorm is estimated to be capable of producing quarter-size hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 miles per hour. This storm was located near Washington, or 10 miles northeast of St. George and is moving south at 15 mph.
Locations included in the warning: Washington, St. George and Bloomington.
Precautionary/preparedness actions:
Severe thunderstorms produce damaging winds in excess of 60 mph and/or large hail at least one inch in diameter, as well as ground lightning strikes. For the best protection move into an interior room on the lowest floor of your home or business.
Flash flood warning
A flash flood warning for east central Washington County, including the left fork of North Creek in Zion National Park is in effect until 10:30 p.m., Saturday.
Around 7 p.m., NWS Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms capable of producing very heavy rain over the upper drainages of the left fork of North Creek in Zion National Park. This warning includes the Subway.
The storm producing the flash flooding will otherwise remain over mainly rural areas of the indicated county.
Precautionary/preparedness actions:
A flash flood warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. If you are in the warning area move to higher ground immediately. Residents living along streams and creeks should take immediate precautions to protect life and property. Do not attempt to cross swiftly flowing waters or waters of unknown depth by foot or by automobile.
