ST. GEORGE — The Dixie Flyers had all their pistons churning with a 58-6 win over Canyon View in their final tune-up before 3AA South Region play next week.
Canyon View took the opening kickoff and scored on its first possession with 9:27 left in the first quarter. They would not see the end zone again the rest of the night.
Flyers wide receiver Drew Batchelor scored in several ways during the contest. In the second quarter, Batchelor returned a Canyon View punt 85 yards for a touchdown. Later in the quarter, Batchelor caught quarterback Ammon Takau’s 9-yard pass for another score. In the third quarter, Batchelor completed the trifecta with a 50-yard run.
Takau had two other touchdown passes to receivers Jaden Harrison and Andy Appel, and ran for a fourth touchdown for 20 yards.
While the game remained close in the first quarter, the Flyers ran off 28 points before the end of the half ending with a comfortable margin of 35-6. Dixie’s defense held Canyon View scoreless in the second half.
The Flyers, 2-2 overall, outgained Canyon View 455-244 and never punted in the game. Takau was nearly perfect, hitting 18 of 19 passes for 249 yards and three TDs and also rushed for 104 yards. Batchelor finished with 143 yards of offense, while Stetson Jones led the defense with 13 tackles , including 2.5 for loss and a sack.
Dixie travels to Pine View to open region play next week. The Flyers beat Pine View 34-24 a year ago en route to their state championship.
