HURRICANE – A head-on collision on state Route 9 in Hurricane put three people in the hospital early Sunday morning, and shut down traffic while emergency workers responded.
Hurricane City Police Sgt. Brandon Buell said the accident occurred around 12:55 a.m., a few miles east of the Hurricane Walmart, when a gray BMW passed the center lane, crashing head-on into a brown Chevy pickup truck.
Buell said officers at the scene had cause to believe that the driver of the BMW had been drinking. He was injured in the accident and taken to Dixie Regional Medical Center.
Both of the men in the pickup truck were also injured and taken to DRMC. According to a Facebook post by the wife of one of the men in the truck, one suffered a broken leg while the the other dislocated his hip.
The driver of the BMW has been charged with a DUI. None of the injuries in the accident were considered to be life-threatening, Buell said. Utah Highway Patrol and the Washington County Sheriff’s office also responded and assisted at the scene.
Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
