ST. GEORGE – A two-vehicle collision occurred at the the intersection of Skyline Drive and Red Hills Parkway Friday morning and sent two people to the hospital.

The St. George Police and Fire Departments responded to the accident that occurred shortly before 11 a.m. SGPD Sgt. Craig Harding said that a gray Ford Focus was traveling northbound on Skyline Drive and was making a left turn through a green light onto Red Hills Parkway when it was impacted by a white SUV traveling southbound.

The driver of the gray Ford Focus “said he started to turn and the southbound vehicle, which also presumably had a green light, didn’t stop for him – couldn’t stop – and they crashed,” Harding said.

Harding said the driver of the gray Ford Focus, which was a rental car, is from Switzerland and may not be familiar with the area. He was cited for not yielding on a left turn.

Airbags deployed in the white SUV; its occupants – a female driver and male passenger – were transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center as a precautionary measure.

The scene of the crash was cleared by 11:50 a.m.

It looks more like the Focus was traveling on Red Hill Pkway and was turning onto Skyline Drive. If he had been turning on to Red Hills, nobody else would have had a green light.

With a 50 mph posting on the road just before the slow down area near Skyline, this road is ripe and just waiting for more accidents. Driving at 50, one is constantly passed by others speeding. It was just a matter of time before accidents started. People seem to be driving faster and faster all the time there. There’s little, if any, police presence there during the times I drive there but what’s new.

Its easy people. We are in a community that is growing. The roads are larger to accommodate more traffic. I know there are some people out there who don’t want to see Saint George grow. I sure has heck fire am one of those who can’t wait until there are over 300,000 people in The STGIZZEL! The Utah Drivers License is going to have to revamp thier program. Based on resutls MOST drivers from Saint George are not ready for upgraded road system. Thus, higher speed limits on main streets. Residencial streets keep at 25mph. Kids don’t play outside anymore anyway. I can’t wait to see what happends when we get a Metro Transit system. Its a proven fact Utonians can’t be around trains…look at the Salt Lake City, somebody is getting hit by a Tracks Train on a daily basis. GO FALCONS!!!
