(May 16, 1944 – August 28, 2013)
Margaret Cottam Erickson passed away August 28th 2013 at Dixie Regional Medical Center surrounded by family after a brief illness. Margaret was born May 16th 1944 in St. George, Utah to Arthur Ronald and Verna Leavitt Cottam.
Margaret married Donn Durrell Erickson on June 19th 1969 in the St George LDS temple. Together they had 3 children. Sadly Donn succumbed to cancer on February 1st 1984, leaving Margret to raise 3 children on her own. She was grateful to have the help of family and friends who stepped in to offer assistance during those difficult years.
Margaret had many health concerns throughout her life, but she always met and overcame them with courage and faith. She never deviated from her love of the Savior and the teaching of the gospel, even in the last health challenge that faced her.
Margaret was raised and spent the majority if her life in St. George and loved the beauty of this area. She was a lifelong learner and was rarely without a book. She taught her children the love of culture, books, arts and education and was deeply proud of their academic accomplishments. She also had a deep passion for music and had a gifted voice which brought her awards and acclaim in her early life before health issues prevented her from enjoying the breadth of that gift. Margaret imparted this love of music to her children, for which they are grateful. In her later years Margret enjoyed the company of her grandchildren and bragged about them and their accomplishments whenever she had the chance.
She is survived by her children, Rick (Sharon) Erickson, Roger (Mindee) Erickson, and Nancy (Lehi) Holm, and 8 grandchildren who she loved and doted on. She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers, and a sister.
Funeral services will be held Saturday September 7th 2013 at 12 noon at the flood street chapel located at 100 south 400 east in St. George. A viewing will be held before the funeral from 10:30 to 11:30 at the same location. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at Dixie Regional Medical Center for the extraordinary care given to Margaret.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Margaret Erickson memorial fund at Cache Valley Bank in St. George Utah to assist with burial costs.
