HURRICANE – Traffic backed up on state Route 9 Friday afternoon after a three-vehicle accident left debris scattered across the roadway.
Around 2:10 p.m., Friday, Hurricane City Police officers responded to an accident call at the intersection of 5300 West State Street involving a blue Subaru Legacy, a tan Mercury Sable, and a green Dodge truck that had been pulling a trailer loaded with decorative rock.
The rock from the trailer had spilled across the entire roadway, causing traffic lanes to be completely blocked for a short period of time.
A backhoe that was in the area was used to move some of the rock and a crew from the Utah Department of Transportation helped remove the rest. Traffic was diverted to one lane in each direction for 30-60 minute as the roadway was cleared.
An investigation into the accident determined the blue Subaru Legacy was eastbound and stopped at the red light. The green Dodge truck and trailer were traveling behind the Subaru and following too close. The driver of the Dodge attempted to change lanes and struck the rear of the tan Mercury Sable in the process, causing damage to all three vehicles.
There were no reported injuries and each vehicle was able to be driven away from the scene.

Tailgating? In Utah? Why, I’m shocked! Shocked I say!
I too am completely shocked! Utah sucks at everything, right? This is the only state where people tailgate. I’m moving!!!
Haha. Perfect.
Thx for keeping us updated.. I have ppl I care about roaming today.. we r ourselves staying home for the most part..
Kristi,
Yes, when it comes to tailgating, Utah does indeed, suck. And I have moved, although certainly not for this particular reason. I live in Alaska, and there really is a difference when it comes to Utah drivers, ala tailgating. Sorry, deal with it.
You all think people tailgate in Utah? This is heaven compared to Cali or Texas. I’ve driven extensively in both states.
