Police on lookout for suspicious vehicle

ST. GEORGE – Police are on the lookout for a white minivan with lime-green stripes on the side and California license plates in order to question the driver and occupants in relation to alleged “suspicious activity” committed in the St. George area. The police are also asking for the public’s help in locating the vehicle.

St. George Police Sgt. Sam Despain couldn’t confirm the exact nature of the suspicious activity mentioned in a press release issued by police Monday night. He said the fact something suspicious was reported and that police have a description of the vehicle involved is all he could confirm at this point.

That’s all we have,” Despain said.

The “BOLO,” or “Be on the Lookout” bulletin has also been posted on the Washington County School District website as of Tuesday morning.

According to the website: “Washington County School District is taking the necessary precautions to ensure student safety. School will be conducted as usual with safety precautions in place.

Vehicle description:

  • Vehicle Make:  Honda
  • Vehicle Model:  Odyssey
  • Style:  Minivan
  • Year:  2004
  • Color:  White with Lime Green Stripes
  • Registration:  6PCY687 – California Plate

Anyone who has any information concerning the vehicle, please contact the St. George Police Department at 435-627-4300.

Separate incident

A separate incident that also took place Monday afternoon involving a “domestic custody incident” may be getting confused with the BOLO alert, Despain said.

Around 2:50 p.m., Monday, the St George Communications Center received a call concerning a suspicious vehicle in the area of 1400 West and 1300 North. An occupant of the vehicle was seen speaking with a juvenile who lives in the area. There was a concern that this could have been an attempt to abduct a child.

Officers made contact with all parties involved and determined no crime had taken place. It appears this incident involves a domestic custody incident in which no crime occurred.

I’m all about alerts, but maybe need to give some more info on what’s going on! People in general tend to panic when they are left in the dark and there is a viable threat to their children!!! My daughter just called me to ask if she should send her kids to school tomorrow??? It would be nice to know what kind of suspicious activity and if it is indeed a direct threat to the children of Washington county school district!!! Also maybe a confirmation of if DHS is in town, why and what fore, if there is viable threat!!!!

As I hear told through the rumor mill, two muslim men (dressed ethnically) went to a school asking how to find addresses of all the schools. They were told to look at the public website to find them. Later they were at this Paula’s restaurant asking about schools and the people there thought it very suspicious and called the police. After that, the men actually made entry into Snow Canyon High School and were caught by faculty. Not sure if they were looking to commit terrorism or kidnap one of their children and take them back to the middle east to disappear forever – something that happens a lot in this country.

    • Craig August 20, 2013 at 2:46 pm

How do you know they were Muslim?

    • Snowfield August 20, 2013 at 4:56 pm

Maybe they’re getting the heck out of Egypt and are picking a house based on location of schools for their kids. Some Muslims like to choose conservative areas for their families which is why Utah is popular with middle easterners to send their kids for college.

      • Molly August 21, 2013 at 8:32 am

It’s possible. Maybe they’re just not from around here.

  • eieio August 20, 2013 at 1:26 pm

You are blind an clueless if you don’t think DHS doesn’t already have an office here. Who do you think runs the immigration. Maybe there isn’t any more info to release. Do we expect the police just to make things up? Is everything the police investigate as suspicious newsworthy? There is a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of the mall. Okay, I guess that means no one should go shopping? Seriously.

  • Jon R. Cocktoasten August 20, 2013 at 1:56 pm

Well, my Aunt’s best friend’s cousin’s dog groomers son’s domestic partner says that it may be Terrorist or someone trying to steal the Coke recipe… Either way, this is way out of hand and something definitely needs to be done about this!!! Good job on the BOLO SGPD!

So… can we get any kind of information about “suspicious activity?” This might be helpful. Why would WashCo School District be worried? Are there child predators in the van? Should WE be worried?

COME ON GUYS, responsible reporting, please!

    • Richard August 20, 2013 at 2:58 pm

Truly amazing the paranoia and fear that people have! The same paranoids people start and also pass on rumors and neglect facts and common sense. I think that if there was a credible threat they would release that, instead they would like to talk to these people about their actions. They didn’t harm or threaten anyone, but yet we have people yelling child predators blah blah blah.

  • J Robertson August 20, 2013 at 3:14 pm

lets see. A gay looking white minivan with green mascara – from California- (Governor Brown
just signed into law that opposite sex individuals may frequency use the girls potty anytime/ anywhere).
Suspicious individuals looking for locations of area schools, like Mexican food joints,
Without any actual information from law enforcement (or DHS) they could be nothing more than
Kirby Vacuum cleaner salesmen looking for recruits.
We deserve a follow up report Mr. Kessler.

  • My Evil Twin August 20, 2013 at 7:30 pm

If they had just put out the information initially, that they put out on the update, a whole lot of people would not have had to worry. Sometimes law enforcement can be their own worst enemy.
